Welcome to Year Two's blog
It's been a short week, but a busy week!
What we have been doing this week
In maths the children continued to learn about time. We have been consolidating telling the time to 15 minute intervals and moving on to 5 minute intervals. You can read our knowledge organiser here.
In writing, the children used the story of 'The Dark' to write their own stories, but from the perspective of the dark. The children applied much of the knowledge they have been focusing on, including using adverbial phrases, possessive apostrophes and suffixes You can the topic sheet here.
We continued our science work on plants. The children will be looking at the different variety of seeds and bulbs and making careful observations. - Read the science knowledge organiser here.
In geography, the children located the physical and human features of the United Kingdom. - Read the geography knowledge organiser here.
In art, the children observed the human form, looking carefully and limbs and joints in preparation for creating their own clay models later in the half term.
What we are learning next week
In maths, we are going to spend two days completing our learning on time before moving on to measuring length. The children will be using rulers to measure accurately in cm and m, ordering and comparing lengths using <, > and =.
In writing, we will be completing writing our stories about 'The Dark'. We will then be comparing this to the story 'The King who Banned the Dark.' The children will be writing letters to the King to explain why they think the King should keep or remove the dark ban. You can the topic sheet here.
We will continue our science work on plants. The children will be taking a look at their seedlings from the bean seeds they planted last week. You can see some photos of these below. Read the science knowledge organiser here.
In geography, the children will begin to learn about the country of India. They will learn about the physical features such as the River Ganges, the Himalayan Mountains and the Thar Desert. Read the geography knowledge organiser here.
In art the children will be practising a range of sculpting techniques and making joins with clay in preparation for their final pieces.

Welcome to Year Two's blog
Welcome to the Summer Term! We are looking forward to a fun-packed but busy term ahead. The first half term is a very short one - just 4 weeks and 4 days long. Towards the end of the half term in May, the children will be carrying out the SATs assessments. This will be similar to assessments the children have already done throughout Year One and Two, so will not be anything new to them. We very much play down these assessments. They are used to inform our ongoing teacher assessment which takes plays continuously.
What we have been doing this week
As you may recall, we have tweaked our approach to the curriculum. Rather than focusing on one topic for two weeks or so, the children will have a lesson of science, geography and art each week up until half term. Our topics are:
'Brilliant Plants' - Read the science knowledge organiser here.
'Super Sculpture'
'Incredible India' - Read the geography knowledge organiser here.
In maths the children have been learning about time. We have revisited telling the time to the hour and half hour intervals, moving on to telling time to quarter hour and then to 5 minute intervals. Some children have already impressed us with how great they are at telling the time. You can read our knowledge organiser here.
In writing, we have read the story of 'The Dark'. The children have written their own descriptions of the Dark using ideas from the book as inspiration, using expanded noun phrases, suffixes and possessive apostrophes. You can the topic sheet here.
What we are learning next week
In maths the children will continue to learn about time. Our aim is for children to be exposed to telling the time to 5 minute intervals. Some children may need further consolidation of telling the time to half hour and quarter hour intervals first. We will also be working out the duration of time, for example, how long a bus journey is. You can read our knowledge organiser here.
In writing, we will be using the story of 'The Dark' to write our own stories, but from the perspective of the dark. The children will be applying much of the knowledge they have been focusing on, including using adverbial phrases, possessive apostrophes and suffixes You can the topic sheet here.

After a dodgy-weathered start to the day we had to make a last minute change to the planned bunny hopping course. It didn't stop us bouncing our way around the obstacle course and having a wonderful time while raising lots of money for the school. Please continue to send in any remaining sponsor money after the Easter break.
Thank you to the PSA for organising such a fun way to fundraise and thank you to Mr Williams for creating a brilliant bunny hopping course!
Welcome to Year Two's blog
It's been a busy old week in Year Two, but we have made to the Easter holidays. The children have been so resilient with so many of them being ill and the many staff changes over the past half term.
What we have been doing this week
The children have had an exciting time coming up with ideas for the 'Mini Apprentice'. They have come up with great business ideas, carried out market research, produced adverts, posters and jingles. After school, they set up their stalls in the playground and excitedly sold their goodies to the rest of the school. We were so delighted with how they did, each class earning lots of money for them to spend on improving their book corners.
Also today, we had our sponsored Bunny Hop. We had to have a last minute change of plan due to the weather, and we changed to an indoor Bunny Assault Course.
In maths this week we have revisited work on addition and subtraction, consolidating previous work using strategies including the number line, Dienes cubes and column method for adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In their writing the children explored the poem 'The Owl and the Pussycat', using the poem as inspiration for writing their own narratives, describing the setting of the poem. Here's the information sheet for this topic.
What we are learning after the Easter break
There will be a bit of a change to how we teach our topics after Easter. Currently we focus on one topic for two weeks or so. After Easter, the children will have a lesson of science, geography and art each week up until half term. Our science topic will be 'Brilliant Plants', our art topic will be 'Super Sculpture' and our geography topic will be 'Incredible India'. You can read the science knowledge organiser here. The geography and art ones will follow after Easter.
In maths the children will be learning about time. Initially we will be focus on revisiting telling the time to the hour and half hour intervals, moving on to telling time to quarter hour and then to 5 minute intervals. Time is a topic that some children find a but tricky, so any support and practice at home will be fabulous! You can read our knowledge organiser here.
In writing, we will be reading the story 'The Dark'. The children will be writing their own descriptions of the Dark using ideas from the book as inspiration. We will be focusing on the use of expanded noun phrases, suffixes and possessive apostrophes. You can the topic sheet here.
