Literacy Curriculum Aims

At Upton Infant School, we foster a vibrant learning environment that motivates and inspires all pupils to become confident, independent readers and writers. We hold high expectations for every learner and believe that every child can achieve their personal best.

Our pupils benefit from a well-balanced and engaging literacy curriculum designed to spark a lifelong love of reading and writing. This policy aligns with national guidance and best practice, supporting a whole-school approach to literacy across all year groups and subjects.

As outlined in the National Curriculum (2014), English is both a subject in its own right and the medium through which all learning is delivered. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential for success across the curriculum and beyond.

You can find our Literacy policy below, which explains our rationale, intent and implementation of reading and writing in our school. For more information on Read Write Inc. the phonics scheme we use to teach early reading please click here.
