What we learned last week
In maths last week we consolidated our previous addition and subtraction learning, focusing on adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. Take a look at the knowledge planner here.
In our literacy lessons, the children looked at what makes a good leaflet. They focused on persuasive writing and producing their own leaflet about an event at Upton Country Park.
In our art lessons, the children created their own landscape paintings, drawing on their skills they have developed over the previous two weeks.
What we are learning this week
In maths this week we will be looking at the properties of 2D shapes, includes the names, number of sides, vertices and lines of symmetry. Here's our knowledge planner for this topic.
In our literacy lessons, the children will be learning about instructions - they will be making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and writing instructions for how to make them. Here's the information sheet for this topic.
We will be beginning a Design and Technology topic where children will be designing and creating their own shield-shapes purse or wallet. We will begin with learning how to sew using a running stitch. Here's the knowledge organiser for this topic.

What we have been learning this week
This week in literacy, the children have been continuing to adapt their story of 'How to Catch a Star' and have written their 'Superhero Writes'.
In maths, we ordered and compared numbers to 50. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
This week we have been brilliant artists and we have made our very own space themed clay tile. The children used skills such as printing, engraving and joining.
What we are learning after the half term break
In literacy we will be looking at the traditional tale 'The Gingerbread Man' and we will be comparing it to an adapted version 'The Stinky Cheese Man.'
In maths, we will be continuing to learn place value within 50. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
In Geography we will be looking at the UK. We will be looking at the 4 countries and its capital cities. We will also be looking at weather and the surrounding seas.

Welcome to this week's Year One blog.
What we have been doing this week
This week in literacy, the children have been continuing to adapt their story of 'How to Catch a Star' and have planned for their 'Superhero Writes'.
In maths, we introduced place value to 50. The children have been representing numbers to 50 in a variety of ways and they have partitioned these numbers into tens and ones using concrete and pictorial resources.
This week we have been brilliant artists and we have been learning about ways to manipulate clay.
What we are learning next week
Next week in literacy we will be writing our 'Superhero Writes' using everything we have learnt so far.
In maths, we will be continuing to learn place value within 50. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
In Art next week we are being brilliant sculptors and we will be creating a space themed clay tile.

What we have been doing this week
In maths we have been learning about statistics. We started the week by heading off down the road to carry out a traffic survey. The children created a tally chart and turned this into a pictogram. Throughout the week we have created tally charts, pictograms and block diagrams and answered questions about them. Here's our knowledge organiser.
The children have written their first 'Superhero Write' of the year, writing a character description about Grandma Bird. You can see some of their work below... (Take a look at the overview here.)
In our art lessons, we looked at different painting techniques including stippling and blocking and creating colour wheels. We learned about brilliant artists such as David Hockney and William Turner.

It was great to see some children who previously hadn't read 3 times a week proud to tell their teachers that they had read 3 times this week. The Woodpeckers have done the double again this week, topping both the maths and reading chart.

Take a look below to see some of the learning which has been going on in Year Two this week.
Some eagle-eyed parents may have spotted our Year Two children down at Moorland Way with clipboards in hands this morning. The children were carrying out a traffic survey as part of their maths work on statistics. They were creating a tally chart of the cars which they will be turning into a pictogram in tomorrow's maths lesson.

What we have been doing this week
This week in literacy, the children have been adapting the story 'How to Catch a Star' using learnt nouns and plurals. They came up with silly sentences to create their own story.
In maths, we have learnt how to subtract numbers within 20 using a number line and the crossing out method. We have also been looking at fact families.
This week we have been brilliant mechanics and designed, created and evaluated our very own moving picture.
What we are learning next week
Next week in literacy we will be showing off the skills we have learnt so far in Year One. The children will continue to recap and adapt the story 'How to Catch a Star'.

Welcome to Year Two's blog
What we have been doing this week
In maths we have been learning about division. We have been dividing by 2 and using this to explore odd and even numbers. We also used our 5 and 10 x facts to help us divide. Here's our knowledge organiser for this topic.
In literacy, we continued reading George's Marvellous Medicine. (Take a look at the overview here.) We wrote our own character descriptions using expanded noun phrases to describe, and conjunctions to extend our sentences. You can hear the George's Marvellous Medicine being read by Rik Mayall here.
We continued our Geography learning this week. We compared the different continents and researched to find out more. Find out more in our knowledge organiser here.
What we are learning next week
In maths we will be learning about statistics. We will be creating tally charts, pictograms and block diagrams and answering questions about them. We will carrying out a traffic survey are displaying the data as a pictogram. Here's our knowledge organiser.
In our writing we be applying the skills that they have learnt this half term in our first superhero write of 2022. (Take a look at the overview here.) The children will be writing a character description of another grandma, but this time she is much nicer. Her name is Grandma Bird and this is also the name of our new text. You can watch the author read it here.
