Welcome to this week's Year One Blog
What we have been learning this week:
This week in literacy we have completed our independent write which was an informative letter to the chocolate company 'Kinder'. They told the company to stop using palm oil as it is harming the rainforest.
This week in Maths we have measured mass, volume and capacity. We have used different containers to measure this.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In History this week we have learnt about transport, school and toys from the past and compared these to the present.
In art this week we have created our own clay tiles. We will be painting these in the first week back after Easter.
We have noticed that not all of the children are reading three times a week or more. Sadly, there are some children that are reading 0 times a week. Please make sure that you are reading with your child as much as possible to support their reading progress.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths we will be measuring time using an analogue clock. We will learn how to tell the time to the nearest hour, half an hour and quarter hour intervals. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons we will be reading 'Ocean Meets Sky'. We will learn how to use prepositions in our writing to show direction, time, place and location. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Science we will learn that there are many types of seeds. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Art we will use Playdoh to learn how to knead, roll and coil. This will help us when we create our own clay sculpture. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In History we will be learning about Mary Seacole and why she is a significant individual. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

Welcome to this week's Year One Blog
What we have been learning this week:
This week we have been introduced to the story 'There's a Rang-tan in my bedroom'. They have looked at facts about deforestation and palm oil. They have created some 'did you know' questions using these facts.
This week in Maths we have been measuring the mass of objects using scales. We compared which objects were the heaviest and which were the lightest. We have measured their mass using cubes.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In History this week we have created a family tree and named people in our family.
In Science this week we investigated which objects float and which sink and have recorded our findings in a table.
We have noticed that not all of the children are reading three times a week or more. Sadly, there are some children that are reading 0 times a week. Please make sure that you are reading with your child as much as possible to support their reading progress.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths next week we will be measuring the length of objects in centimetres and metres. We will also be learning how to estimate length and make comparisons. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons we will be reading 'The Bear and The Piano', The children will write a newspaper report about the bear in story. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Computer Science we will be learning how to change the properties of an object using a sequenced code. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Design and Technology the children will be designing their stitched pocket. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

This week the children have been completing their assessments in Maths, Reading and Literacy.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In Art this week we have practised three techniques for joining clay: slip, score and blend.
In History this week we have ordered events of our lifetimes on our timelines and have looked at our childhood photos.
In Science this week we investigated which material is the best for a crash mat for Humpty Dumpty by dropping eggs onto different materials.
We have noticed that not all of the children are reading three times a week or more. Sadly, there are some children that are reading 0 times a week. Please make sure that you are reading with your child as much as possible to support their reading progress.
Just to remind you it is non-uniform day next Friday. Please bring a donation to help raise money for Forest Holme Hospice.

Welcome to this week's Year One Blog
What we have been learning this week:
This week in literacy the children have continued with the story of 'Dinosaurs and all that rubbish'. We have recapped using s and es to make words plural and we have retold the story in the past tense.
This week in Maths we have been continuing with place value to 50. We have compared numbers to 50 and ordered them from smallest to greatest. We have finished the week by learning how to count in 2s and 5s.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In Art this week we have explored textures and used different materials to create different textures in Playdoh.
We had a wonderful day on World Book Day. We created a class story based on the children's costumes and the children completed various rhyming activities. We loved their costumes!
We also had a great time on our visit to Upton Library. We listened to stories and completed a treasure hunt. We also got the chance to explore the books in the library and members were able to take a book home.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
