This week in literacy we have edited our story form last week and have written an apology letter from our mean character.
This week in Maths we have been introduced to money. We have recognised coins and notes and we have counted in coins.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In Geography we have compared Upton and London. We have considered the land use in both and have drawn and labelled features.
In Science this week we have looked at animal classification keys. We have grouped animals based on their characteristics and have answered yes and no questions.
In DT this week we have evaluated our looms and considered the different ways we could have improved it.
Next month the children will be completing the statutory Phonics Screening. Please make sure that you are listening to your child read at least 3 times a week and have looked at the alternative sounds in the phonics pack. If you have lost the pack please see your class teacher for a new one as this is the last push and the children must get at least 32/40 to pass.

The children clearly enjoyed themselves as they completed sponsored laps of the school to raise much needed funds for the PSFA.
Thank you to family and friends for your kind sponsorship.

This week in literacy we have thought about what we are excited to see at the Science Museum and have used a conjunction to explain why we thought this. We have written a recount about what we did at the Science Museum.
This week in Maths we have been dividing amounts by sharing and grouping. We have used counters and pictorial representations to show this.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In Geography we have learnt about the human features of London and wrote our own leaflets and tourist maps about these features.
We were very excited about our trip to the Science Museum this week and the children enjoyed learning about Space and Matter. The children visited a Planetarium where they got to see the Solar System. The children also enjoyed a slime workshop.

This evening, we were delighted to welcome children, families, friends and colleagues to the grand opening of ‘The Hive’. The Hive is a purpose-built inclusive provision for all children in our community.
The building of the Hive has taken place over the previous year, generously funded by Hamwic Education Trust. We are very thankful to our Hamwic colleagues who have made this dream a reality.
You will also undoubtedly be aware that one of our parents, Ashley Rogers, has raised an incredible £22,000 to provide equipment and resources for the Hive by running two marathons in two days. Ashley cut the ribbon to officially open the hive this evening. His son is one of our children for whom the Hive will be such a valuable resource.
We are so thankful to everyone who has supported us to make this happen, which will benefit our brilliant pupils for many years to come.
Welcome to Year Two
