This week, the Woodpeckers have topped the Doodle Maths chart - congratulations!
The Doodle English chart toppers are the Frogs class.
Our individual top Doodler this week is Alexander in the Ladybirds class. Well done!
Welcome to this week's Year Two blog.
What we have been doing this week
It's been a wacky old week in Year Two. The children have been busy making their Wacky vehicles after two weeks of exploring vehicles, practicing skills like sawing, designing and making. The Wacky Races took place where the children tested their vehicles using a ramp.
In maths we have been measuring length in cm and m, using a variety of equipment such as rulers, tape measures and trundle wheels.
In our writing, we have been continue to write about the story of our End of Year performance. We have also been painting scenery and props ready for filming!
On Friday it was Sports Day. Unfortunately we were unable to invite parents along this year, but the children took part in various fun races and activities throughout the day.
What we are learning next week
Next week we will be focusing on our End of Year Performance. We will be filming the scenes over a number of days, so we would be very grateful if your child could bring any costume in as soon as possible.
We will also be reflecting on our time at Upton Infant School, and writing about some of our memories.
In maths we will be exploring mass, weighing objects using balances and scales and comparing their weights.
This week we are not setting any new spellings.
Wow Work
This week, Woodpeckers have topped the Doodle maths chart and have earned extra play time. We haven't counted the weekly reads this week as lots of children didn't have their book bags in school due to Sports Day.

Well done to all the super Doodlers this week.
One of our Reception children wanted to share the exciting release of his butterflies with his friends. What an amazing learning experience!
Welcome to this week's Year Two blog.
What we have been doing this week
It has been another busy week this week, but thankfully we have completed our end of year assessments! As part of this, the children have been writing about their recent Animal Fun Day and completing some rather posh maths booklets!
More excitingly, the children have been continuing their work as Brilliant Mechanics, exploring the best ways to attach wheels to chassis and creating their plans for their own vehicles for out wacky races.
What we are learning next week
Next week we will be looking at measuring length in maths, exploring how to estimate and measure accurately in cm and m using tape measures, rules and trundle wheels.
In our writing lessons we are going to start thinking about the story for our End of Year production. The children begin to retell this story in their own words.
We will making our vehicles for the 'Wacky Races'. We hope to be able to race the vehicles by the end of the week - we will post a video of it when we do!

Year Two's Weekly Blog
Welcome to this week's Blog which should keep you up to date with the goings on in Year Two!
What we have been doing this week
The children have had a very busy week as always. Although we have been carrying out assessments this week, there has been plenty of time to fit in lots of fun.
This week the children have been revisiting doubling and halving as well as reading scales in steps of 2, 5 and 10.
In writing we have begun to look at how to write recounts of real life events and the children have also been focussing on grammar this week, including the using of possessive apostrophes.
On Thursday the children had a fantastic habitats day where they looked for minibeasts, created their own creatures using junk modelling and investigated the wide variety of different animal groups.
In our adventure afternoons the children have started to become Brilliant Mechanics. They have been beginning to look at the features of wheeled vehicles, including the axles and chassis, and beginning to practice using tools such as bench hooks and hacksaws.
What we are learning next week
Next week, we will be continuing to carry out end of year assessments. As we said previously, we don't make a big deal out of them so as not to make children feel anxious.
In our writing we will writing recounts, drawing on our experiences of our habitats fun day.
In maths next week we will be consolidating our learning from Year Two and carrying out end of year assessments.
In our adventure afternoons will be starting to be Brilliant Mechanics. The children will be continuing to practice their skills using tools and designing and making their own vehicle to race in the 'Wacky Races'.

Year Two's Weekly Blog
Welcome to this week's Year Two Blog which keeps you up to date with what is going on in Year Two this week.
What we have been doing this week
We have been carrying on our work on 'Into the Forest' by Anthony Brown in literacy this week. The children have been building up to writing a diary as if they were the main character from the story. You can see an example of this in the photographs below.
In Maths we have been consolidating our work on multiplication and division. The children have revisited 'grouping' and 'sharing' and applying their knowledge of the multiplication tables to solve division calculations.
In our Adventure Afternoons we have continued to be 'Brilliant Scientists' this week. We have been carrying out an investigation into the favourite habitat of woodlice by planning and doing a fair test. We have also been investigating how animals are adapted to suit their environments.
What we are learning next week
Next week, as we are approaching the end of the year, we will be starting to carry out some of our end of year assessments. We do these in such a way to make as normal a part as possible of our usual school routine. We don't make a big deal out of them so as not to make children feeling anxious.
In our writing we will begin to write recounts.
In maths next week we will be revisiting doubling and halving as well as reading scales in steps of 2, 5 and 10.
In our adventure afternoons will be starting to be Brilliant Mechanics. The children will be designing and making their own vehicle to race in the 'Wacky Races'. We would appreciate all children bringing their own small box into school to create their vehicle ( a tissue box size would be ideal - please click here to find out more about this!)
