Pupils in the Foxes Class treated their parents to the school's first class assembly of the year.

  • Football Fever

    Wed 14 Oct 2015

Our Year Two football squad enjoyed an afternoon of sporting fun when we held a joint training session followed by matches with the Yarrells School.  Approximately thirty children from the two schools took part with 'Head Coach' Mr Antell leading the session ably assisted by 'Director of Football' Mr Cole.  In the matches we drew one game 0-0 and won the other 4-0 with Alfie Speller scoring a hat-trick.

Congratulations to everyone who took part.

  • New School Council Appointed

    Mon 12 Oct 2015

Upton Infant School's new school council was officially appointed by Michael Tomlinson, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, at a special assembly.

Mr Tomlinson took the opportunity to look around the school and talk to children from each class.

Mrs Marsh will be working with the school council, which comprises one child from each Year One and Two class, to represent the voice of the pupils in helping to continue to improve Upton Infant School.

  • New Reading Rewards launched

    Wed 30 Sep 2015

Today we launched our new reading reward scheme. Children had to solve clues to unlock the reading chest to discover what the new reading rewards would be.

Reception children solved clues around school, whilst Year One and Two children spent the day at Upton Country Park to unravel the clues to unlock the treasure chest.

One of our key aims is for our pupils to become confident and fluent readers, and through our reading reward scheme we hope to promote a love and  enthusiasm for reading.

  • Community Mural Garden

    Wed 30 Sep 2015

The great and good of the Upton community gathered together today to open the recently created Mural Garden.  All the local schools and preschools were represented along with Dame Annette Brooke, Michael Tomlinson MP and the Mayor of Upton June Richards.

The murals that had adorned the Waypoints building site have been relocated alongside a landscaped seating area.  The local children had been asked to provide designs for the bin and Madison's picture (Ducks Class) was selected as a winner.

Congratulations to all those involved in the project - another fine example of the tremendous community spirit that Upton is becoming renowned for.

  • Urn 'n' Learn

    Fri 25 Sep 2015

Today we held our first Urn 'n' Learn morning of the year where parents had the chance to spend a lesson with their child followed by a coffee morning in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.

We are always delighted to see so many parents and grandparents taking such an interest in their child's education and raising money for such a worthwhile cause at the same time. In total, £247 was raised. Thank you everyone for your support.

  • School Council Elections

    Thu 24 Sep 2015

The School Council Elections will be taking place on Friday. Nominees from each class have been busy campaigning to secure votes from their classmates.

Children have created posters, banners, leaflets, rosettes and balloons to promote their manifestos. All the candidates have shown themselves to be super ambassadors for Upton Infant School, but unfortunately only one school councilor from each class will be elected in Friday's ballot.

Mid Dorset and North Pool MP, Michael Tomlinson, will officially appoint the school councilors in a special assembly on Friday 2nd October.

Listen to the candidates manifesto pledges on our podcast page.

  • Welcome back!

    Tue 08 Sep 2015

We have had a super start to the new school, and the children have settled in brilliantly to their new classes. Our Reception children spent their first morning in school today and had a fantastic morning. As always, there is lots going on around school and  the exciting start to the year has even included visits from Mr Bump and  Neil Armstrong and we have even had the coronation of a  princess!

Take a look at some of the photos below to see how our children have settled in to their new classes.

  • Goodbye...

    Fri 17 Jul 2015

The last day of the Summer Term is a roller coaster of emotions, with fun and celebration but tinged with sadness.

There was certainly a lot of celebration as we toasted the successes and hard work or our Year Two children. Each year, our school governors present one child from each Year Two class with a special award for their effort and enthusiasm throughout their time at school. It was a particularly tough choice this year - take a look at the pictures below to see the winners.

There was also a lot of fun! The three winners of our 'Where's Wally?' competition got to choose an adult from their year team to walk the plank. Again, look at the pictures below to see who won!

Finally, there were quite a few tears as we say goodbye to our Year Two children, who have been the most incredible group of children. They have been delightful, kind and hard working. We wish them the very best of luck at their new schools. Click here to take a look at some pictures of their time at Upton Infant School.

It was also sad to say goodbye to a number of staff, some of which have been associated with the school for nearly twenty year. Mrs Smith, Mrs Atwill, and Mrs Griffin are all retiring this year. Mrs Jackson, Miss Lewis, Mrs Wilson and Mr Martin are all moving on to new jobs. We wish them all the very best of luck. Click here to see what the children think of them!

  • The Time Warp!

    Mon 13 Jul 2015

The Year Two children's end of year extravaganza took place today. The audience was entertained with super singing, acting and dancing and there were plenty of laughs, and a few tears. Well done Year Two - a fantastic end to three fantastic years at Upton Infant School.
