  • Church Visit

    Thu 21 Nov 2013

Reverend Jean De Garis warmly welcomed all of the Year 2 children into Lytchett Minster Church, where they continued their RE learning about the Christian faith, Christian values and religious holidays. The children got to sing a song and asked questions about the variety of different things found within the Church.

  • The Mascot Race

    Fri 25 Oct 2013

The half-term ended in great excitement with the much anticipated Mascot Race. Each class was represented by their class mascot and they were joined by the Tiger from the Tea Party who had been training after school each day this week on the playground. A tough course was set and the children were in fine voice as the characters had to conquer obstacles, score basketball hoops, complete a Maths challenge, dance round their handbags and scoot to the finish line. In an all action event the race mirrored the Hare and Tortoise fable as the Tiger took an early lead (through cheating) but became a little arrogant near the finish line and ended up coming last. Congratulations to all the mascots that took part and each one was given a pack of class mascot badges that will become this year's rewards for those children that read regularly at home.

  • Oscars Night

    Thu 24 Oct 2013

The school was transformed into Hollywood as the red carpet was rolled out, the sparkling lights were lit and the cameras were flashing. The children returned to school in their finest outfits to enjoy a glass of sparkling lemonade, some fizzy sweets and a movie experience. Throughout Storytelling Week the children have been doing a variety of activities linked to their class book. Alongside author visits, radio shows, reading in a Vardo (Romany Caravan) and retelling stories the children have been reading a book which has subsequently been turned into a movie. On Oscars Night they enjoyed the film of the book whilst being treated like A-List celebrities. As a thank you to the parents who make a great effort in supporting the work the school does by reading regularly at home, turning up at events and taking an active role in their son or daughter's education the hall was turned into the Upton Arms and refreshments were served whilst a literacy based pub quiz was enjoyed.

  • Marvellous Maths

    Tue 15 Oct 2013

Marvellous Maths day saw the Year Two children using a variety of Maths skills to make their own healthy sandwich. They also created a package for the sandwich using a 3D net and priced up the ingredients to create a total. The children then got to show off their successful Maths work completed over the first half term to their parents.

All this, and they got to eat their healthy sandwich after school...what a day!

  • Meet the teacher meeting

    Thu 10 Oct 2013

The Reception parents had great fun at our meet the teacher evening!

  • Mr Responsible Day

    Fri 20 Sep 2013

Thursday was Mr Responsible Day at Upton Infant School.

With the help of our Learning Skills Mascot, Mr Responsible, the children have been considering how to be responsible for themselves, others and property.

Year One children took responsibility for their local environment by carrying out a litter pick around Upton. In Year Two, the children decided to take responsibility for recycling - they had realised the the school milk is supplied in non-recyclable cartons, so decided to write to the milk company to ask if they could be supplied in recyclable bottles.

Each class also has become responsible for sponsoring a child in India to ensure that they receive an education just like the children of Upton. Throughout the year, children will consider ways to raise funds to sponsor their adopted pupil.

Children in Year One and Two also voted for their School Councillors - the results of the election will be announced on Friday.
