Expressive Arts Week was kicked off with a special performance for the children by the staff. Each year team performed a song from the musicals, with a particularly impressive performance by Mr Antell in Mamma Mia.
On Tuesday the children were treated to a performance from Lytchett Minster school band performing jazz, rock and brass numbers.
Throughout the week the children will be taking part in a variety of art activities, culminating in the music performance on Friday afternoon.
Congratulations to Team Upton Infants who competed in the Manor Mile cross country event today against the other five schools in the Lytchett Minster pyramid. This year's race was held at Upton Country Park on a beautifully sunny afternoon.
Individual medals were awarded to Reece C (Reception Boys Winner), Chloe G (Year One Girls Runner Up), Jack B (Year Two Boys Winner), Georgia L (Year Two Girls Runner Up) and Abbie KB (Year Two Girls Third Place).
In each race the top three children's scores were added together to create an overall team score. Pleasingly our Reception/Year One team came joint first and our Year Two team also came first so we have two shiny trophies to add to our collection.
Well done Team Upton
On a gloriously sunny afternoon Upton Infant School held its annual Summer Fair. There were lots of stalls and activities to amuse and entertain pupils and their families. We hope everyone had an enjoyable afternoon, and would like to thank the many parents ans staff who help run the fair.
The Summer Fair helps the PSA to raise funds which are increasingly important in supporting a variety of projects at Upton Infant School.
Congratulations to all the children, parents and staff for their tremendous efforts during Sports Day.
A morning of competitive events such as the egg and spoon, sprint and obstacle race was followed by the annual children's water race and the teachers' 'welly wanging' competition.
Because there arghhh!
Mr Helm had been captured by pirates today, and his release would only be secured once the Year One children had completed a variety of pirate related tasks. Thankfully, the children worked very hard and by lunchtime Mr Helm was untied.
Meanwhile, Burglar Bill was spotted around school this morning. Thankfully, not much gets past our ever-vigilant caretaker, Mr Loe, who captured him and presented him to the Year Two children for cross examination. At first it was thought he was stealing, but after careful questioning by the children, it turns out he was actually retuning items to school. Phew.
Whilst all this was going on, our Reception children were managing to have a much more serene day, with a watery inspired arts day resulting in some very creative work.
All these events helped to enthuse the children at the start of the new half term, kick starting their new topics.
But please can we ask everyone to keep their eyes peeled for pirates over the coming weeks, as rumour has it some teachers may be asked to walk the plank...
It was the Summer Disco this afternoon. There were some impressive moves on display from the children as well as Mr Cole. 'Frozen' and 'Gangnam Style' seemed to be the big floor fillers, but sadly DJ Ashley was unable to find one request for Showaddywaddy's 'Doo Wah Diddy'. Maybe next time, Mr Helm...
Take a look at some of the action below:
The Year Two footballers were treated to a football feast at Upton Rec! Due to another school pulling out of the CASA tournament at the last minute, a mini-tournament was held, with three Upton teams of four players contesting the CASA Sports Trophy. The eventual winners, "Team Orange", remained unbeaten and scored some truly excellent goals.
The next CASA event is this Friday - an athletics tournament starting at 3.15pm.
On Thursday election fever gripped Upton Infant School. Groups of pupils across the school presented their manifestos to try to persuade the other children in school to vote for their proposal on how to spend £100 to 'improve' the school.
In a closely fought battle the winning parties were the 'Hide and Seek' party (-is this the new name for the Liberal Democrats?), the 'Fox Flash' party and the 'Swimmers go Crazy' party. They promoted the ideas of spending the money on updating our role play costumes and purchasing some water fun equipment eg a big paddling pool and water pistols to be used as a class reward for collecting 100 gold coins.
Mr Helm (as Prime Minister) and Mrs Steele (as Chancellor) will now ensure that the manifesto promises are kept.
The opinion of the political commentators is that there appears to have been a big swing towards FUN at Upton Infant School.
