    Fri 07 Jan 2022

Welcome to this week's Year One blog.

What we have been doing this week

This week in literacy, the children have been learning about and writing both acrostic and list poems.

In maths, we have been partitioning 2 digit numbers within 20 into tens and ones using both concrete and pictorial resources. This has included using diennes and part, part whole models to represent our numbers.

This week we have been focusing on wellbeing and reinforcing our class charters.

What we are learning next week

Next week in literacy, we will be reading 'Man on the Moon'. We are going to use this book to create questions to ask Bob (a character in our story) about what life in space is like.  We will then write responses to these questions. We are also going to learn about the suffix 's'.

In maths, we will be finding one more and one less than numbers to 20. We will also be comparing and ordering numbers. Please see more information by looking at our knowledge and skills organiser.

In history this week we will be looking at historically significant people and we will be focusing on space.

  • Merry Christmas!

    Fri 17 Dec 2021

As the term came to an end today the sky was filled with flurries of snow (only directly over Upton Infant School though!).

We would like to thank all our children and families for their support in this first term and wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

  • Starting the day with a champion...

    Thu 16 Dec 2021

This morning, our children kicked off the day with an Olympic champion.

Following last week's fantastic sponsored Festive Fun Run, our top three fund raisers went with Mr Churchill to open the new Aldi store.

Kate French, gold medal winner at the Tokyo Olympics, cut the ribbon and then followed up with a 'virtual assembly' at school where the children got the chance to ask her questions. You can see Kate French crossing the finish line here.

    Thu 02 Dec 2021

    Welcome to Year Two's blog.

It was lovely to see the children and staff in their festive jumpers today and starting to get into the Christmas spirit. Our Christmas tree is looking very colourful now!

What we have been doing this week

This week in literacy, we have been continuing our writing using the story 'The River'. The children wrote their own stories based on the river in the present tense, ensuring the use the correct  tense in their writing.

In maths, we began  to learn about money. We familiarised ourselves with the different coins and notes, and used them to make different amounts of money.

In science we began to learn about materials - how they are used for different purposes, their properties and how they can be changed. You can see the 'knowledge and skills organiser' here.

What we are learning next week

In maths, we will continue to look at money. We will be finding totals, working out change and finding the difference between amounts.

In our writing lessons next week we are going to apply our learning from the last two week about 'The River' and invent our own stories, thinking about adjectives, adverbs and interesting vocabulary.

In our science lessons we will continue to learn about materials. We investigate which materials are waterproof, planning a fair test, making predictions and drawing conclusions. You can see the 'knowledge and skills organiser' here.

There are no new spellings to learn for next week.
