Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Today, as the sky darkened during the solar eclipse, the children of Upton Infant School each ran a mile around 'the rec' to help Mr Martin, one of our lunchtime supervisors, raise money for Forest Holme Hospice. The fastest finishing children in each year group will go on to represent the school in the 'Manor Mile' cross country competition.
Mr Martin will also be running the London Marathon in a few weeks time to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.
We were pleased to welcome many of our parents into school on Tuesday evening to find out how children learn mathematics at Upton Infant School. Parents tried out a range of strategies for themselves to solve a variety of calculations. They also pitted their wits against the children and took part in an 'Are you smarter than a 5 year old?' quiz, which highlighted the expectations we have of the pupils throughout the school.
We will shortly be sending home a guide for all parents which will explain the strategies taught at school.
Upton Infant School celebrated World Book Day in style today, with all children and staff dressed up as their favourite book character - some very inventive costumes were on display.
The children took part in a range of activities based around books - take a look at the photos at the bottom of the page to see for yourself.
Some of the Year One children even created their own story based around the characters they had come dressed as - watch the video below to find out more.
Whatever your favourite book character, you are sure to see them in the video below:

In the new 2014 National Curriculum the government has emphasised the importance of children being able to perform poetry. The Foxes performed a great poem about Fantastic Mr Fox for their recent class assembly. Click on the link below to hear the Foxes class in action!
One of the most prestigious events in the school calendar took place today - the annual Great Upton Pancake Race.
Two representatives from each year group donned their fancy dress to tackle the fiendishly tricky obstacle course in pouring rain to fight for the coveted Pancake Race trophy.
This year, Year Two munched their way to victory, stealing the trophy from Year One. Well done!
On Friday, 19 children from Year Two took part in the second Harbour Sports event of the year, the Swimming Gala. After a rotation of fun activities with qualified swimming coaches Mr Mace and Miss Close, the children participated in a variety of races. These culminated in 3 separate finals of 25m.
The children enjoyed the event immensely and took home the Harbour Swimming Shield for their excellent effort.
