  • Year One Blog 28th January 2022

    Fri 28 Jan 2022

Welcome to this week's Year One blog.

What we have been doing this week

This week in literacy, the children have been learning what a noun is and how to add the suffixes s and es to make these plural. They have began to use this to write sentences linked to their story 'How to Catch a Star'.

In maths, we have continued with our addition of numbers within 20 and have focused on using number bonds to 20 and adding by making 10. We have done this with both tens frames and part-part whole models.

This week we have been brilliant mechanics and we have been looking at a variety of moving pictures. We have learnt how to make both sliders and levers and will be using these skills next week to make our own moving pictures.

What we are learning next week

Next week in literacy we will be focusing on using capital letters in our writing. We will apply our knowledge of making nouns plural in our writing as we come up with different ways the boy from the story could catch a star.

In maths, we will be introducing subtraction within 20 and applying our knowledge of addition to use related facts. We will use tens frames and number lines to complete our subtractions and begin to problem solve.

In Design and Technology next week we will be designing and making our own moving pictures using our skills to creating levers and sliders. We will then be evaluating our moving pictures. You can find out more by looking at our Knowledge Organiser

  • Year Two's Blog - 28th January

    Thu 27 Jan 2022

    Welcome to Year Two's blog.

What we have been doing this week

In maths this week we have been learning about division. We have learned about sharing and grouping, and using our knowledge of the 2 x multiplication facts to divide by 2. Here's our knowledge organiser for this topic.

In literacy, we began to explore 'grandmas' in fiction . (Take a look at the overview here.) We will looked at Grandma Kranky in George's Marvellous Medicine, which you can watch a fabulous reading of the story by Rik Mayall here.

Our wider curriculum focus was Geography. We found out about the world - including the oceans and continents. Find out more in our knowledge organise here

What we are learning next week

In maths we will continue to work on division. We will be dividing by 2 and using this to explore odd and even numbers. We will also use our 5 and 10 x facts to help us divide.  Here's our knowledge organiser for this topic.

In literacy, we will continue to read George's Marvellous Medicine. (Take a look at the overview here.) Many children are excited to be reading a Roald Dahl book, many of them sharing his books that they are reading at home. We will be writing our own character descriptions using expanded noun phrases to describe, and conjunctions to extend our sentences. You can hear the  George's Marvellous Medicine being read by Rik Mayall here.

We will continue our Geography learning this week. We will compare the different continents and research one to find out more about it. Find out more in our knowledge organise here
