What we have been learning this week:

This week in literacy we have edited our work using purple pens. We have also learnt facts about penguins and have shown our knowledge by writing a non-chronological report.

This week in Maths we have continued multiplication. We have made arrays using counters and we have also made doubles.

We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.

In Geography we have learnt about the location of Upton compared to London. We have explored rural and urban areas and have looked at the characteristics of both.

In DT we have been practising weaving using paper. The children have created a paper loom and have weaved different colours of paper into it to make a placement.

In Science this week we have explored the different types of animals and have grouped animals into these types based on their characteristics.

We have noticed that not all of the children are reading three times a week or more. Sadly, there are some children that are reading 0 times a week. Please make sure that you are reading with your child as much as possible to support their reading progress.

On Thursday we have our trip to the Science Museum. Please send the children into school in school uniform and they will need a packed lunch and water bottle.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Hive Grand Opening

    Tue 25 Apr 2023

This evening, we were delighted to welcome children, families, friends and colleagues to the grand opening of ‘The Hive’. The Hive is a purpose-built inclusive provision for all children in our community.

The building of the Hive has taken place over the previous year, generously funded by Hamwic Education Trust. We are very thankful to our Hamwic colleagues who have made this dream a reality.

You will also undoubtedly be aware that one of our parents, Ashley Rogers, has raised an incredible £22,000 to provide equipment and resources for the Hive by running two marathons in two days. Ashley cut the ribbon to officially open the hive this evening. His son is one of our children for whom the Hive will be such a valuable resource.

We are so thankful to everyone who has supported us to make this happen, which will benefit our brilliant pupils for many years to come.

  • Year One Blog 21st April

    Fri 21 Apr 2023

Welcome to this week's Year One Blog

What we have been learning this week:

This week in literacy we have been introduced to the story 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers and we have been focusing on the penguin from the story. The children have asked questions about him and have written a guide of how to help a lost penguin.

This week in Maths we have been introduced to multiplication. We have practised counting in 10s and we have made equal groups. We have also written repeated addition number sentences.

We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.

In Geography we have looked at the human and physical features of Upton. We have explored our local area to help us and we have recorded this in a variety of ways.

In DT we have been introduced to weaving. The children have explored different woven products and have categorised these appropriately.

In Science we have been explored the wildlife around the school and have recorded our findings in a tally chart.

We have noticed that not all of the children are reading three times a week or more. Sadly, there are some children that are reading 0 times a week. Please make sure that you are reading with your child as much as possible to support their reading progress.

If you haven't paid for the trip to the Science Museum, please do so as soon as possible.

    Have a great weekend everyone!
