  • Mega Monster Maths

    Mon 31 Mar 2014

Our half termly 'Mega Monster Maths' day started with the opening of our new outside maths zone. The area has been created to provide a stimulating outdoor environment in which children can further develop their mathematics skills. Mrs Garrett, chair of the PSA, officially opened the area. We are very grateful to the PSA who helped to fund this super new outdoor learning area.

The children then spent the day carrying out a variety of maths investigations around the school involving number, measure and directions. Take a look at the photos and video to see what we got up to.

  • Sport Relief 2014

    Fri 21 Mar 2014

Congratulations to everyone for their superb efforts in running a mile around the Rec in aid of Sports Relief and the Poole Hospital Trauma Unit.

The children looked great in their ‘Loud and Crazy’ outfits and the warm up stage organised by the Junior School was a lively addition to proceedings.  Our Year Groups paired up with one from the Juniors and the competition was fierce as the children, accompanied by some parents and younger siblings, raced to the finish line.  Well done to all the runners and we look forward to raising lots of money for these worthy causes.

After school, a number of staff headed for Hamworthy Park Junior School to defend Upton Infant School's Netball Champions title. The Upton Infant Team won every game, but a peculiarity in the scoring system resulted in the runners up, Twin Sails Infant School, lifting the trophy this year. Well done to Twin Sails, and to everyone who took part to raise money for Sport Relief.

  • Science Day

    Fri 21 Mar 2014

Our Science Day proved to be a very exciting event.  The children were invited to dress as scientists for the day and even some of the staff joined in!  The day began with a futuristic assembly lead by Miss Monaghan alongside some willing assistants.  To the delight of the children Space Zog returned in his spaceship to talk to the children about life in 2114.

Throughout the day the children carried out experiments, designed and made vehicles of the future and generally had a lot of fun learning about being a scientist.  Some of our Year Two pupils were invited to spend the afternoon at Lytchett Minster Secondary School where they used their ‘proper’ science labs to carry out their investigations.

  • Pancake Race

    Tue 04 Mar 2014

An event steeped in tradition and old rivalries, the annual Upton Infant School Pancake Race took place today. This year's event was an epic battle between the year groups as they fought to rescue Curlylocks in the quickest time.

Reception, in the guise of 'The Baby Bears' finished in third place.

Year Two as 'The Daddy Bears' came in second.

Year One - 'The Mummy Bears' - finished in the quickest time, lifting the coveted Upton Infant School Pancake Race trophy for their first time.

Well done to all the teams, but particularly to 'Curlylocks' (also know as Miss Card, our super Poole SCITT Teaching Student) who had to endure three rather cold and soggy pancakes!
