    Year Two's Weekly Blog

Welcome to this week's Blog which should keep you up to date with the goings on in Year Two!

What we have been doing this week

The children have had a very busy week as always. Although we have been carrying out assessments this week, there has been plenty of time to fit in lots of fun.

This week the children have been revisiting doubling and halving as well as reading scales in steps of 2, 5 and 10.

In writing we have begun to look at how to write recounts of real life events and the children have also been focussing on grammar this week, including the using of possessive apostrophes.

On Thursday the children had a fantastic habitats day where they looked for minibeasts, created their own creatures using junk modelling and investigated the wide variety of different animal groups.

In our adventure afternoons the children have started to become Brilliant Mechanics. They have been beginning to look at the features of wheeled vehicles, including the axles and chassis, and beginning to practice using tools such as bench hooks and hacksaws.

What we are learning next week

Next week, we will be continuing to carry out end of year assessments. As we said previously, we don't make a big deal out of them so as not to make children feel anxious.

In our writing we will writing recounts, drawing on our experiences of our habitats fun day.

In maths next week we will be consolidating our learning from Year Two and carrying out end of year assessments.

In our adventure afternoons will be starting to be Brilliant Mechanics. The children will be continuing to practice their skills using tools and designing and making their own vehicle to race in the 'Wacky Races'.

    Year Two's Weekly Blog

Welcome to this week's Year Two Blog which keeps you up to date with what is going on in Year Two this week.

What we have been doing this week

We have been carrying on our work on 'Into the Forest' by Anthony Brown in literacy this week. The children have been building up to writing a diary as if they were the main character from the story. You can see an example of this in the photographs below.

In Maths we have been consolidating our work on multiplication and division. The children have revisited 'grouping' and 'sharing' and applying their knowledge of the multiplication tables to solve division calculations.

In our Adventure Afternoons we have continued to be 'Brilliant Scientists' this week. We have been carrying out an investigation into the favourite habitat of woodlice by planning and doing a fair test. We have also been investigating how animals are adapted to suit their environments.

What we are learning next week

Next week, as we are approaching the end of the year, we will be starting to carry out some of our end of year assessments. We do these in such a way to make as normal a part as possible of our usual school routine. We don't make a big deal out of them so as not to make children feeling anxious.

In our writing we will begin to write recounts.

In maths next week we will be revisiting doubling and halving as well as reading scales in steps of 2, 5 and 10.

In our adventure afternoons will be starting to be Brilliant Mechanics. The children will be designing and making their own vehicle to race in the 'Wacky Races'. We would appreciate all children bringing their own small box into school to create their vehicle ( a tissue box size would be ideal - please click here to find out more about this!)

    Year Two's Weekly Blog

Welcome to Year Two’s first weekly blog. We are hoping you will find this useful to find out what your child has been doing at school this week and what they will be learning next week.

Our brilliant Year Two children are into their final half term of Upton Infant School and now only have six weeks left until the summer holiday and on to their new schools. Although we are still unable to do many of the things we would normally do, we have some exciting things coming up over the coming six weeks. More details to follow!

What we have been doing this week

We have been reading the story 'Into the Forest' by Anthony Brown in literacy this week. The children have been performing drama  to help them explore the feelings of characters in the story (you can see some children taking part in the drama below) and thinking about writing diaries.

In Maths, we have been revisiting multiplication. We have been practicing the 2s, 5s and 10s times tables and using these to solve multiplication calculations,

In our Adventure Afternoons we are being 'Brilliant Scientists' at the moment. This week we have been learning about the characteristics of living things, what animals and plants need to survive and beginning to look at different habitat types

What we are learning next week

In writing next week we will be imagining ourselves as the character from 'In the Forest' and writing a diary.

In maths next week we will be revisiting division, grouping and sharing. We will be using our knowledge of the 2,5 and 10 times tables to solve division calculations and problems.

In our adventure afternoons will be continuing to be 'Brilliant Scientist'. We will be investigating the animals and plants in our local environment and planning and carrying out our our fair test investigations to find out what the favourite habitat of a woodlouse is.

The week after, the children will be designing their own vehicles for the 'Wacky Races'. Please click here to find out more about this!

  • This week's top Doodlers

    Fri 11 Jun 2021

Congratulations to this week's top Doodlers.

Topping the chart this week is Alexander in the Ladybirds class. Well done!

The top Doodle Maths class this week are the Otters, earning 429 stars. At the top of the Doodle English chart is the Foxes with 135 stars.

Well done to all those super Doodlers - research shows that using Doodle Maths little and often really improves maths fluency.

  • Wacky Races!

    Thu 10 Jun 2021

The Wacky Races are coming to town. In a couple of weeks, the Year Two children will be taking part in the Wacky Races. The children will be designing and making their own Wacky Race vehicle. For this, we would welcome any clean milk bottle lids. If you have any, please send them into school with your child. Each Year Two pupil will also need to bring in to school a small cardboard box to create their vehicle - please see the poster for some ideas!

  • New Computers

    Wed 09 Jun 2021

You may remember that last year we had a fundraising drive to raise money to buy new computers for the children. Our previous laptops were outdated and no longer fit for use.

We were amazed by the support and generosity of the whole school community, and our fundraising raised a large portion of the money needed to replace the computers.  Some of the most generous donors included:

    MDG sports £50

    Wyatt Homes £250

    Greys Estate Agents £100

The PSA and Year Two parents (class of 2020) £255

Two anonymous parents who contributes £100 and £150

Thanks to this generosity, we have now purchases a set of new laptops which the children have started to enjoying using in school.

    Thank you!
