  • Year One Blog 30th June

    What we will be learning next week:

     

    Next week in Literacy we are introduced to the story Little Red and making comparisons between Little Red Riding Hood. We are creating actions for the story and learning these.

     

    Next week in Maths the children will be continuing place value to 100 and they are ordering numbers from smallest to greatest. They are also finding one more and one less of these numbers.

     

    We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.

     

     

    In Art this week we will be practising the techniques that Van Gogh used to create a Starry Night picture. The children will trace this picture and paint this using the techniques.

     

    On Thursday and Friday this week the children will be transitioning into their new classes. They will meet their new teacher and spend the day in their new classroom.

  • Sports Day

    Sports Day is one of the highlights of the school calendar. The children were fantastic, taking part in all manner of races and activities. Thank you parents for coming along to cheer on your children who seemed to enjoy themselves greatly and made us all very proud!

    (And thankfully, we only got a little bit damp!)

    What we will be learning next week:

     

    Next week in Literacy we will be completing the children's assessments for Reading, Spelling and Grammar.

     

    Next week in Maths the children will be completing Arithmetic and Reasoning assessments.

     

    We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.

     

     

    In History we will be creating a timeline for the monarchs in the past and learning more about some of these, linking to our prior learning about monarchs.

     

    In Science this week we will be learning about the structure of trees and labelling the different parts. We will also explore the different trees around the school.

     

    On Friday it will be the children's Sports Day at Upton recreational ground. Please remember drinks bottles, sun cream and hats as it may be very hot.

    Welcome to Year Two

     

    What we are learning next week

     

    In maths we will be solving problems including doubling and multiplication. 

     

    In our literacy lessons we will be writing sentences using possessive apostrophes, conjunctions and adjectives. We will plan and write a character description of Grandma Kranky. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

     

    In Science we will be learning about how animals and plants are suited to their habitats. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

     

    In DT we will be designing a wheeled vehicle. Please bring in a small cardboard box ready to make the vehicle next week e.g. cereal box, tissue box.  You can read the knowledge organiser here.

     

    In Geography we will be learning about what it is like to live in Chembakolli. We will discuss different aspects of life in the village including work, food and daily tasks.

    Welcome to Year Two

     

    What we are learning next week

     

    In maths we will be consolidating our learning so far. We will be focusing on partitioning numbers, shape, money and solving number problems.

     

    In our literacy lessons we will be reading 'George's Marvellous Medicine' and we will be using commands and conjunctions in our writing. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

     

    In Science we will be learning about habitats and microhabitats. We will be exploring the different microhabitats around our school. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

     

    In DT we will be learning how wheels attach to axles. We will be experimenting with different materials to attach them together.  You can read the knowledge organiser here.

     

    In Geography we will be comparing Upton (town) to Chembakolli (village). We will be looking at the physical and human features.

    What we will be learning next week:

     

    Next week in Literacy we will be introducing the children to the story the Clockwork Dragon. We will be identifying the ing suffix and using conjunctions to extend sentences.

     

    Next week in Maths we will be introduced to place value to 100. The children will be practising counting forwards and backwards to 100.

     

    We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.

     

     

    In History we will be learning about some more monarchs from the past and the children will be comparing these. Please feel free to discuss King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I with your children.

     

    In Science this week we will be learning about the structure of a plant and labelling the key features of this.

     

    In Art this week we will be learning three new painting technique: stippling, wash and block.

    What we will be learning next week:

     

    This week the children will be completing their phonics check.

     

    Next week in Literacy we will be introducing the children to the story the Clockwork Dragon. We will be identifying the ing suffix and using conjunctions to extend sentences.

     

    Next week in Maths we will be continuing time. Any help at home would be fantastic - please focus on reading clocks to o'clock and half past.

     

    We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.

     

     

    In History we will be using primary and secondary sources to learn about monarchs past and present. 

     

    In Science this we will be exploring different types of plants and leaves in our environment, considering their different characteristics.

     

    In Art this week we will be mixing secondary colours and using these to paint a fruit bowl.

     

    Next week the children will be completing the statutory Phonics Screening. Please make sure that you are listening to your child read at least 3 times a week and have looked at the alternative sounds in the phonics pack. If you have lost the pack please see your class teacher for a new one as this is the last push and the children must get at least 32/40 to pass.

    Welcome to Year Two
