  • A Sparkly Start to term

    Mon 31 Oct 2016

Across the school, children kick started the new half term with a sparkling variety of activities.

Our Reception children jetted off into space to start their new topic 'Out Of This World' and then completed space-themed art, dance and music activities throughout the day. The children came to school dressed to impress as aliens and astronauts. What super costumes! - thank you for all your hard work.

The Year One children met a very strange lady, Widow Hanky, who seemed a bit confused at to which pantomime she belonged in. The children will spend this topic learning about pantomime stories before going to see a pantomime for themselves at Poole Lighthouse.

The Year Two children had a fun start to their 'Fire Fire' topic learning about the Great Fire of London. During this topic they will also be learning about The Gunpowder Plot and keeping safe, visiting the Street Life centre in Bournemouth.

  • A Fab Finish

    Thu 20 Oct 2016

Our first half term of the year is drawing to an end. It has certainly been a busy one! There have been lots of exciting things going on over the last week and lots of dressing up! Please take a look at the class pages to see many of the photos for yourselves.

As with everything we do, it is a team effort. Thank you parents for getting involved with the learning at school and helping your children with the stunning home learning projects - we really appreciate your support!

Have a lovely half term break everyone.

  • Harvest Festival

    Sun 16 Oct 2016

On Thursday, we welcomed the children to school dressed as farmers and scarecrows for our Harvest Festival. The children spent the day carrying out harvest activities, such as creating food collages and Autumn artwork, and the school was filled with the smell of the Reception children’s freshly baked bread. It has been a long-held Upton tradition that the ‘Young at Heart’ club join us each year for our Harvest Festival, and they were entertained by a number of harvest songs sung beautifully by the children. The Lady Mayor judged our annual class pumpkin competition, presenting the coveted trophy to the Foxes Class for the second year running. Thank you for your generous contributions of fruit, vegetables and tinned goods. A special mention must go to Mrs Churchill for her assortment of home grown veg, including the largest pumpkin we have ever seen!

  • Harvest Festival

    Tue 11 Oct 2016
Just to remind parents that this Thursday is Harvest Festival day and children can contribute by bringing in tins of anything, fresh fruit or vegetables.  They can also wear either a farmers outfit (e.g. shirt and jeans) or dress up as a scarecrow.  In the afternoon the children will be singing harvest songs to the 'Young at Heart' club. Unfortunately, due to lack of space, parents are unable to attend
  • Book Bugs!

    Tue 11 Oct 2016

The school has been over run by bugs. The bugs in question are our new friendly, furry ‘book bugs’. The bugs appeared today to launch our new 'book bug' reading reward scheme.

The children spent the day carrying out activities based on some of their favourite books. The children's super efforts were rewarded with a magic bean which they planted and, by the afternoon, had grown into a magnificent tree in which the book bugs could be found.

One of our key school aims is to encourage children to be enthusiastic readers and to enjoy books. To help achieve this is, in return for regular reading at home, the children will be rewarded with book bugs. There are nine different book bugs to collect, and we hope this will help to foster a positive reading habit.

  • Urn 'n' Learn

    Sat 01 Oct 2016

This morning we had our first 'Urn 'n' Learn' of the year, when we invite parents in to school to spend a lesson with their child and then have a cup of tea and a cake.

As always, it was a very popular event and we were delighted to welcome so many parents into school.

The coffee morning was to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and we were delighted to raise over £200 for this very worthwhile cause. Well done everyone!
