What we have been doing this week
It's been a busy old week. We have been working with a skeleton staff with so many of our staff being unwell. So thank you for bearing with us through this tricky week! Also, Miss Hector had a bit of a fright this morning when a mystery visitor surprised her in her classroom (see pictures below!).
This week in maths we continued learning about fractions. We learned about thirds, unit and non-unit fractions. Here's our fractions Knowledge Organiser.
We continued learning about the Great Fire of London in our history topic. We looked at different sources of evidence (primary and secondary). Take a look at the Knowledge Organiser here.
In writing, the children continued to write information texts, focusing on including adjectives, possessive apostrophes and conjunctions. Today the children wrote letters imaging they had lived through the time of the Great Fire of London. They did a fantastic job, and we have been delighted with their work. What we are learning next week
Next week in maths we will be completing some end of term assessments as well as completing our work on fractions. Here's our fractions Knowledge Organiser.
Next week in history, the children will be continuing their learning about the Great Fire of London. They will learn how it fits chronologically on a timeline with other historic events before creating their own timeline. They will make comparisons between 17th century London and London today and discuss how things have changed for the better! We will focus on changes in houses and the fire service. Take a look at the Knowledge Organiser here.
In their writing next week, the children will be reading and writing poetry. They will have the chance to explore a wide range of poetry, performing poems they have learned to the class, and writing their own. Here's the information sheet for this topic.

The Woodpeckers are back to the top of the Doodle Chart, once again with Eric being the top Doodler. Once again, they have gone and done the double this week, with 15 children reading 3 times a week. When children read three times a week, they are entered into the 'Reading Raffle', with one child per class winning a prize for the Reading Raffle Shop.

What we have been doing this week
This week, the children completed their textiles projects. They have learned and practiced the running stitch, and designed, created and evaluated their sewn pockets. We think they did a fantastic job - you can see some photos of their work at the bottom of the page. If you have any socks that need darning, you know who to ask! Year One's Blog 18th March
Fri 18 Mar 2022Welcome to this week's Year One Blog
What we have been learning this week
This week in literacy, the children have been learning the traditional tale 'The Enormous Turnip'. They have learnt how to add -er and -est to root words and they have learnt how to write extended sentences using 'and' or 'because'.
In maths, we have been learning about height and length. The children were able to use language such as shorter, longer and taller to describe and compare objects. They have been measuring objects using cubes and rulers! Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
This week we have been brilliant scientists and we have learnt all the main external parts of the human body. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
What we are learning next week
In literacy we will continue to retell and write the story 'The Enormous Turnip' and we will be applying all of the skills we have learnt so far. We are so proud of the children's writing.
In maths, we will be looking at weight and mass. We will be using comparative language such as lighter and heavier and we will be using cubes to measure objects. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
We are continuing to be brilliant scientists! The children are going to be be learning about their 5 senses. They will be completing investigations and they will record their findings.Wow Work

Year One's Blog 11th March
Mon 14 Mar 2022Welcome to this week's Year One Blog
What we have been learning this week
This week in literacy, the children have written their adapted version of 'The Stinky Cheese Man' using their own character e.g. The Sparkly Cupcake Man.
In maths, we have been learning about height and length. The children were able to use language such as shorter, longer and taller to describe and compare objects. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
This week we have been brilliant geographers and we have created a map of the classroom including a key.
What we are learning next week
In literacy we will be learning the traditional tale, 'The Enormous Turnip'. The children will be able to retell and sequence the story. They will also be writing sentences using 'because' and they will be using the suffix -er and -est.
In maths, we will continue to focus on length and height. The children will firstly be using cubes to measure length and height (non-standard measure) and then they will use be introduced to measuring in cm. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.

What we have been doing this week
This week in maths, we have been looking at the features of 3D shapes, including the number of faces, edges and vertices. Here's our knowledge planner for this topic.
In Design and Technology we continued to practice running stitch to join two pieces of fabric together. We have designed our own wallets and purses and will complete these next week. Here's the knowledge organiser for this topic.
In our writing we used The Great Fire of London as a focus for our writing. The children explored this using drama and learned about Samuel Pepys. They wrote their own diaries, using the correct tense. Here's the information sheet for this topic.
What we are learning next week

What we have been learning this week
This week in literacy, the children have been introduced to 'The Stinky Cheese Man' and they have focused on using adjectives and conjunctions to write extended sentences.
In maths, we counted in 2s and 5s using a one hundred square and pictorial representations. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
This week we have been brilliant geographers and we have learnt what a map is and how to use a compass to navigate the playground.
What we are learning next week
In literacy we will be creating our own character for an adapted version of the Stinky Cheese Man story and using this character to retell our own story.
In maths, we will be introduced to length and height. Please see the knowledge and skills organiser.
In Geography we will be creating our own maps and using key features such as a key to create these. We will also be learning positional language such as next to and above.Wow Work

Year Two's Blog - 4th March

What we have been doing this week
It has been an excited week in Year Two. Besides the usual lessons, children have been sewing, making pancakes and dressing up for World Book Day. The children seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, learning about 'herbology', 'potion class' and 'Quidditch'.
In maths this week we have been looking at the properties of 2D shapes, includes the names, number of sides, vertices and lines of symmetry. Here's our knowledge planner for this topic.
In our literacy lessons, the children learnt about instructions - they made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and wrote instructions for how to make them. Here's the information sheet for this topic.
We began our Design and Technology topic this week. Children investigated different methods of joining fabric, and learned how to sew using a running stitch. They practiced sewing which they will continue to do next week. Here's the knowledge organiser for this topic.
