Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In Maths we will be finding 10 more and 10 less of a number to 100 and we will be learning how to add and subtract two 2-digit numbers. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons next week we will be reading the book 'We are Water Protectors'. At the start of the week we will be writing a list poem about water, rivers and waves. We will then write a fact file about water pollution and teach the reader how to protect rivers. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In computer science next week we will be identifying the correct keys on a keyboard. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In geography next week we will be naming and locating the seven continents. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our design and technology lessons we are going to be brilliant chefs and discuss the skills we would need to design and make an appealing menu e.g. chopping, grating, peeling and presentation. Using our prior knowledge from our science lessons, we will sort different ingredients into food groups. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

We will be introducing spelling checks this week. Children will receive either a Set A or Set B spelling list. Set A is a list of spellings for children who are currently doing Read, Write Inc and Set B is for children who do Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling lessons. These lists will be slipped into the red spelling books and sent home every Friday. The children will be tested on the words the following week, on a Friday morning. Please do not write in the red books at home.

This week the children will be creating a fruit salad as part of their Design and Technology topic. Please make us aware of any fruits which your child cannot have or are allergic to.
What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will be introduced to the story 'A Cloudy Lesson'. The children will be creating their own bubble wand and will write a set of instructions to make a bubble blower.
In Guided Reading, the children will be reading the story 'I Want My Hat Back'. The children will infer about how the characters feel in the text.
In Maths, the children will be continuing to add using tens frames and counters and then the children will learn to add using a number line within 10.
In DT, the children will be sorting fruits and vegetables. They will also be making and evaluating their own fruit salad.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths next week we will be completing a maths assessment and we will also be continuing our learning about place value, addition and subtraction. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons next week we will be writing a leaflet about wolves using the facts we have learnt. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In science next week we will be consolidating all our learning from this half term. We will discuss the importance of a balanced diet, the importance of exercise and what humans need to survive. We will use this knowledge to design a leaflet to share with the Year One children You can see more on our knowledge organiser.
On Thursday afternoon we will be having a 1950s party. We will spend the afternoon creating and burying a new time capsule full of information about school life in 2023. We will be dancing to 1950s music and playing popular games. If you or your family have any memories of life in the 1950s then please share with your child or your child's class teacher so we can share these with children next week. What we are learning next week
In Maths next week, we will be subtracting across 10 by using tens frames and number lines. We will also learn how to add 3 1-digit numbers. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons next week we will continue to look at facts about wolves and different non-fiction texts. We will use this information to plan a non-chronological report (as a leaflet) about wolves. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In science next week we will be learning about the importance of exercise and how it affects breathing and heart rate. You can see more on our knowledge organiser.
In history next week we will be comparing the past and present. The children will sort and compare items from 1952 with items from today. You can see the knowledge organiser here.
NNext week in art, the children will continue to learn how to draw objects from different angles/perspectives. You can see more on our knowledge organiser.
Next week in Jigsaw, the children will be learning how to create a happy and safe classroom to learn in. We will continue speaking about rewards and consequences.

What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will be continuing with the story 'The Way Back Home'. The children will be writing a retell of the story. They will be sequencing the story and then writing simple sentences to retell the events of the story.
In Guided Reading, the children will be watching a LiteracyShed short animation called Bubbles. The children will be retrieving information from the story. Please ensure your child has their library book in their book bag every day so that it can be returned.
In Maths, the children will be using the add symbol and they will begin making number bonds to and within 10. They will also be finding fact families to 10.
In DT, the children will be designing their own fruit salad to make. They will begin by fruit tasting (please let your teacher know asap any allergies), before designing their fruit salad and making it. The children will use the bridge and claw grip to chop the fruit.
