What we are learning next week
In maths we will be learning about number bonds to 100. The children will use their knowledge of number bonds to 10 to support their learning. We will also be learning how to add 2 digit numbers. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons we will be discussing the differences between fiction and non-fiction books. We will be using our knowledge from these books to describe a wolf! You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In science we will be sorting food into groups. We will be discussing what a healthy diet is and why it is important. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In art we will be learning how to draw from different perspectives. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In history we will be comparing the past to the present. We will be focusing on life in the 1950s when the school was built. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths we will be learning how to recall number bonds to 20 fluently and recall fact families. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons we will be writing a story about Goldilocks and Baby Bear. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In science we will be carrying out an investigation into how germs spread. We will be focusing on how to keep clean and healthy. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In art we will be drawing objects from different perspectives. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In history we will be learning about our local history. We will be focusing on the history of our school. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
The children have settled in brilliantly to Year One!
As mentioned in our Welcome to Year One meeting, our PE days will be changing from next week. The new days are: Monday and Thursday.
What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will be introduced to the story 'The Way Back Home'. They will be focusing on using capital letters to begin their sentences and how to form these.
In Guided Reading, the children will be beginning their new group rotation which will include a read with the teacher. Their VIPERS activity will be based on the book 'Astro Girl'.
In Maths, the children will be comparing numbers within 10 including using greater than and less than symbols. They will also be ordering numbers within 10 using concrete and pictorial resources.
In Computing, the children will be programming Beebots to follow a simple instruction. The children will also be creating their own instructions for somebody to follow.

Welcome to Year Two
Wow!
The children have settled into Year Two brilliantly and they have worked extremely hard this week.
In our literacy lessons we have been detectives trying to find the person who ate from the three bear's porridge bowls. The children have created posters to try and find the mystery person who committed the crime!
In maths we have been learning how to count forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s.
We have focused on skills from our 'learning critters' this week. We have discussed teamwork, communication, resilience and how to be responsible.

In maths we will be representing 2-digit numbers and partitioning numbers into tens and ones . You will find the knowledge organiser here.

During our art lesson we will learn how to draw by shading and cross hatching.
What we will be learning next week:
Next week on Monday the children will have their last transition day and the children will continue to familiarise themselves with their new classrooms and teachers.
On Tuesday the children will have a Victorian themed day; the children will be making Victorian toys and learning about how the Victorians lived.
On Wednesday the children will be having an Art themed day including Andy Goldsworthy and other art themed activities.
On Thursday and Friday the children will be doing lots of fun activities to end their fabulous year.

On Thursday after school, the Year Two children competed to win the 'Mini Apprentice'. Throughout the week they had been creating products to sell, designing brands, posters, adverts and jingles to market their products. There was a lot of interest in the children's stalls and each class nearly sold out of all the products.
What we will be learning next week:
Next week in Literacy we are adapting the story of Little Red and creating our own characters before retelling the story.
Next week in Maths the children will be completing their place value assessment. They will also be introduced to position and direction, completing some practical activities to support their learning.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In Art this week we will create our own version of Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' painting using the techniques we have learnt.
In Science this week we will be comparing deciduous and evergreen trees and closely examining their leaves. This will include identifying their characteristics.
On Monday the children will participate in the Upton's Got Talent heats. Please remember to bring along any props or costumes the children will need for this.
The children will also be continuing to prepare for their Summer Concert by learning their songs.

Welcome to Year Two
On Thursday 6th July the children will be transitioning into their new classes. They will meet their new teacher and spend time in their new classroom. Please drop your child at Upton Infant School and pick up as usual.
On Friday afternoon the children will be placed in their new classes but remain at Upton Infant School.
What we are learning next week
On Monday 3rd July the children will be creating their wheeled vehicle based on their design ready for our race next week! You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In maths we will be revisiting addition and subtraction.
In our literacy lessons we will be continuing to write a character description of Grandma Kranky. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Science we will be learning about how animals and plants make their food. We will also be looking at food chains. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Geography we will be comparing the weather in the UK to India.
Spellings - We will no longer be carrying out weekly tests. However, it would be very useful to check that your child is able to spell the Year 1 and 2 common exception words. Please see the letter in your child's book bag.
