Fri 18 Dec 2015Mr Helm decided that the last day before the Christmas break would be a good time to reinforce school behaviour expectations, so called everyone to a special assembly where he went on, and on, and on about sitting nicely, listening carefully, being polite etc...

Houses of Parliament
Wed 16 Dec 2015The School Council had an exciting trip to London last week when they visited the Houses of Parliament. During the trip they stood at the Dispatch Box, walked through the Central Lobby, learnt about the State Opening of Parliament. They then met with Michael Tomlinson MP, who had invited the councillors for the visit, to have a question and answer session.. He later 'tweeted' about the quality of the children's questions. Community Carols
Wed 16 Dec 2015Congratulations to our Infant School Choir who sang recently at the Upton Community Carol evening by the clock tower. They were joined by the Junior School Choir, Wareham Town Band and Jean de Garis for a celebration of Jesus' birth. It was the biggest ever turn out from the community and whole event had some extra Christmas 'sprinkle' when Father Christmas arrived during the second verse of Away in a Manger. Afterwards everyone headed to the Scout Hut for some well-earned mince pies. -
Choir at Waypoints Care Home
Tue 08 Dec 2015Last week our some of our Reception and Year One Musical Fun children performed a selection of Christmas songs to the residents of Waypoints Care Home. Congratulations to everyone who took part and to Mrs Gdesis and Mrs Weaver for organising the event.

Dorset Search Dogs
Mon 07 Dec 2015Recently the Dorset Search Dogs team visited us for an assembly at the school. They are our chosen School Charity of the year and as part of this process they organised a competition to design a car sticker. Finlay in Year Two was the winner and he was presented with a framed copy of his design. This year we have has an Indian Festival, the Great Upton Bake Off and an Art Show to help raise money to buy equipment such as torches and radios which are used when the team search, alongside the police, for missing people.

Christmas Fair Fun
Thu 03 Dec 2015Ho! Ho! Ho!
Christmas officially started today at Upton Infant School as we held our Christmas Fair this afternoon. The school was transformed into a Winter Wonderland, with seasonal stalls and activities taking place in every classroom.
We ho-ho-hope everyone enjoyed themselves - thank you to all the parents for supporting this event and for the super work of the PSA and staff in putting on a great fair.

Rockin' Robin's Advent Trail
Fri 27 Nov 2015On each school day in December, Rockin’ Robin will be ‘tweeting’ the location around school of his secret advent door. Behind the door will be a Christmas scene and a Christmas clue word. When all of the Christmas words are written in the puzzle grid below, it will spell out a secret message. All children who give a completed puzzle grid to their teacher will receive a special advent treat. Good Luck, but shh – keep it secret!

Poetry Competition
Tue 24 Nov 2015Three of our pupils recently took part in the finals of the Upton in Bloom Poetry Competition. Mia Gridley, Ashton Bridgeman and Georgina Jalie had been selected as winners from the Infant School to compete against pupils from Upton Juniors and the Yarrells. Despite being the youngest competitors all three of our representatives performed their poems with confidence and proudly showed off their decorated 'best' copy. We all enjoyed the homemade cakes afterwards!

Children in Need
Fri 13 Nov 2015Upton Infant School was doing its bit for Children in Need today. Pupils and staff came dressed in their own choice of clothes today in return for a donation.
The school raised £250 for Children in Need. Thank you for your generosity.

Football Fever
Thu 12 Nov 2015Our Year Two footballers have been busy in the last couple of weeks. Each year we organise the Harbour Sports Shield competition which is a series of events to promote competitive sport for Year Two pupils across the local schools. Last week we hosted the football element and six teams competed against each other. All the children showed great determination and skill with the 'A' team finishing as Runners Up (narrowly losing 1-0 in the final) and the 'B' team finishing fifth overall.
The quote of the day came from Ollie Blemings who was overheard, as he ran back to the halfway line after scoring his second goal of the match, saying "If I score one more goal I'm like Geoff Hurst in the 1966 World Cup final". Being that the Year Two children have just been studying the 1960s this is cross-curricular learning in real life action!
We have also had a joint training session and match with the Yarrells School and it is noticeable that the children are really developing their skills and positional sense. Thank you to Mr Antell and Mr Cole for organising these activities.
