This week has seen all the potential school councillors in Year One and Two hard at work on the campaign trail. Thank you to them all (and their families) for all their hard work this week. There have been posters, hustings on the playground, banners, badges, sweets and cakes with each of them keen to share why they'd be the person to vote for.
Voting took place today and the votes are being carefully counted and verified ready for the announcement of the winners next week.
We were very pleased to welcome our new Reception children to school this morning. After their teachers spent last week visiting the children in their homes, they all had their first taster of school today.
Without exception, the children settled in quickly and had a lovely first day. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the things they got up to.
The new school year has begun, and the first week has flown by. Everyone at school always looks forward to Friday, as it is the day of Golden Assembly, the Friday Fun Run and Golden Time!
Take a look at the photos below to see who has been shining this week and received our first golden certificates of the year, and some of the fun from this afternoon's fun run.
Upton In Bloom's annual Upton Horticultural Show took place today. There was a super number of entrants in a wide variety of categories.
A number of Upton Infant School pupils had entered in the children's categories and some were awarded prizes:
In the handwriting there were awards for Lydia Jones and Mia Gridley.
In the model categories there were awards for Erin Langdale, Isla Rawlings and Luke Harris.
In the miniature garden category there were prizes for Luke Harris and Isla Rawlings.
In the painting category, Luke Harris was successful.
In the Jam tarts category, Luke Harris was successful again.
Well done to all the children who entered, and to Upton in Bloom for organising a super event.
For those parents that purchased a "Memories" performance DVD, they are now at school to be collected on Thursday 25th August or Tuesday 30th August. You can otherwise pick them up from the school office when term time begins (Monday 5th September). For those of you who purchased P&P, your DVD has been delivered and should be with you shortly.
The Year Two Team
With just one day of their time left at Upton Infant School, our Year Two pupils put on a fantastic end of year performance with their show 'Memories'.
Singing, dancing, laughter and tears - well done everyone - a superb show.
The Reception children were very excited to welcome a menagerie of pets into school this afternoon for their pet show. There were all sorts of 4 legged friends, and a few six legged ones too - dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ponies, tortoises and stick insects.
The child thoroughly enjoyed getting up close and personal with the animals. Thank you to the parents who brought the pets in, particularly as it was such a hot day.
After a lot of hard work by parents, staff and children, the Upton Infant School space-themed float, packed with colourful aliens and astronauts, took to the road for the 5th Upton Carnival.
The carnival was a fantastic day, with a super variety of floats making their way through the crowded streets to the recreation ground.
We were surprised and delighted to win the best float award for the fifth year.
A big 'Well Done' to everyone at school who took part.
