What we are learning next week
In maths next week we will be learning to recognise equivalent fractions and solve problems involving fractions.
In our literacy lessons we will be learning how to write suffixes and interesting adjectives. We will also write a diary entry from another person's perspective.
In Computer Science we will be learning how to create an algorithm.
In geography we will learn about the different climates of the seven continents.
In Design and Technology the children will be joining two pieces of material together using running stitch.

What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will writing sentences using the -ed suffix which will help to build up to their newspaper report about Beegu. The children will be planning their newspaper article at the end of this week.
In Maths, the children will be continuing with length and height. They will measure this using both standard and non-standard units e.g. cubes and rulers.
In Science, the children will be learning the different parts of the body and labelling them.
In History, the children will be learning about the past, present and future tense. They will use the terminology 'last year, last week, next week and next year' to talk about their own lives.
In Art, the children will be using charcoal to practise different techniques.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths next week we will be introducing thirds by referring to the numerator and denominator. We will also be learning about unit and non-unit fractions and use fraction frames to find a fraction of a given number.
In our literacy lessons we will be describing the Great Fire of London from a different characters point of view.
In Computer Science we will be learning how to make objects collide and use a collision detection command.
In geography we will learn about the five oceans of the world.
In Design and Technology the children will be learning how to sew using a running stitch.

What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will be writing a letter to Kinder to persuade them to stop putting palm oil in their chocolate. This is their independent piece of writing.
In Maths, the children will be continuing with place value to 50. They will be partitioning numbers to 50 into their tens and ones and finding one more and one less than a number.
In Design and Technology, the children will be evaluating their final piece against the plan.
In Geography, the children will be showcasing all that they have learnt about Upton. They will recap the previous learning about the human and physical features and land use before creating a poster or being a quiz master.
In Computing, the children will be learning about Internet Safety and discussing how they can be safe when using the Internet.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In Maths next week we will continue to divide by 5 and 10 and link this knowledge to multiplication. We will also learn how to recognise odd and even numbers.
In our literacy lessons we will be writing our own story about 'the bridge'.
In science next week we will be carrying out an investigation into the different properties of materials.
In history we will be discussing the similarities and differences between 1666 and the present day in London.
In art we will be discussing the meaning of a landscape and planning an art piece in the style of Monet.

What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will be learning about the deforestation of the rainforest for palm oil. They will be writing 'Did you know?' questions using the information they have learnt.
In Maths, the children will be introduced to place value to 50. They will practise counting forwards and backwards within 50 before representing numbers in different ways e.g. using numicon.
In Design and Technology, the children will be making their own moving picture using either a lever or slider mechanism.
In Geography, the children will be learning about the 4 seasons and the different weather patterns in each. The children will discuss the weather in Upton.
In Computing, the children will be using the cameras to learn how to take photos of themselves and their friends.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In Maths next week we will be dividing by sharing and grouping and using our multiplication facts to support this.
In our literacy lessons we will be writing speech bubbles and learning to use the suffix -er and -est to compare. We will use these skills to retell a story.
In science next week we will be carrying out an investigation to compare the properties of different materials. We will introduce key vocabulary such as absorbent, waterproof, transparent and permeable.
In history we will be order the Great Fire of London onto a time line.
In art we will be using mixing paint and add black and white to change the one of the colour.

In Literacy, the children will be introduced to a new story 'There's a Rangtan in my bedroom'. They will learn facts about the rainforest and the importance of looking after our environment.
In Maths, the children will be introduced to subtraction to 20. They will use the crossing out method and number lines to subtract before thinking of the fact families up to 20.
In Design and Technology, the children will be designing their own moving picture using either a lever or slider mechanism.
In Geography, the children will be learning about the different ways that the land is used in Upton.
In Computing, the children will be using the drop down menu to save their work. They will be creating a rainbow and filling the background using the fill tool .

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In Maths next week we will be continuing to learn 2s, 10s and 5s multiplication facts and use this knowledge to solve problems. We will be continuing to learn these facts over the next few weeks.
In our literacy lessons we will be writing a poem based on another poet's work. We will focus on a range of colours and learn the meaning of new words/colours.
In science next week we will be learning that materials are used for particular reasons. We will learn that objects are made out of different materials to make them suitable for a purpose.
In history we will be ordering key historical events onto a timeline in chronological order.
In art we will be using a brush to create a desired effect. We will learn different brush strokes e.g. pointillism, block and stipple effect.

In history we will be asking and answering questions about the Great Fire of London.
In art we will be learning about primary, secondary and tertiary colours to help us build the skills needed to paint a landscape painting in the style of Monet and William Turner.
