Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In Maths next week we will be dividing by sharing and grouping and using our multiplication facts to support this.
In our literacy lessons we will be writing speech bubbles and learning to use the suffix -er and -est to compare. We will use these skills to retell a story.
In science next week we will be carrying out an investigation to compare the properties of different materials. We will introduce key vocabulary such as absorbent, waterproof, transparent and permeable.
In history we will be order the Great Fire of London onto a time line.
In art we will be using mixing paint and add black and white to change the one of the colour.

What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will be introduced to a new story 'There's a Rangtan in my bedroom'. They will learn facts about the rainforest and the importance of looking after our environment.
In Maths, the children will be introduced to subtraction to 20. They will use the crossing out method and number lines to subtract before thinking of the fact families up to 20.
In Design and Technology, the children will be designing their own moving picture using either a lever or slider mechanism.
In Geography, the children will be learning about the different ways that the land is used in Upton.
In Computing, the children will be using the drop down menu to save their work. They will be creating a rainbow and filling the background using the fill tool .

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In Maths next week we will be continuing to learn 2s, 10s and 5s multiplication facts and use this knowledge to solve problems. We will be continuing to learn these facts over the next few weeks.
In our literacy lessons we will be writing a poem based on another poet's work. We will focus on a range of colours and learn the meaning of new words/colours.
In science next week we will be learning that materials are used for particular reasons. We will learn that objects are made out of different materials to make them suitable for a purpose.
In history we will be ordering key historical events onto a timeline in chronological order.
In art we will be using a brush to create a desired effect. We will learn different brush strokes e.g. pointillism, block and stipple effect.

In Maths next week, we will be writing multiplication number sentences and adding equal groups using repeated addition and arrays. We will also recap the x2 tables.
In our literacy lessons we will be writing a letter of complaint to Duncan based on the story 'The Day the Crayons Quit'.
In science next week we will be learning how objects can be made from different materials. We will be sorting materials into natural and man-made materials.
In history we will be asking and answering questions about the Great Fire of London.
In art we will be learning about primary, secondary and tertiary colours to help us build the skills needed to paint a landscape painting in the style of Monet and William Turner.

What we are learning next week
In Maths next week, we will be adding coins together to find the total and we will learn how to make the same amount in different ways.
In our literacy lessons we will be reading 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. The children will use the book to find apostrophes, conjunctions and key words that are used to write a letter.
In science next week we will be looking at objects and learning about the material they are made from.
In history we will be learning about The Great Fire of London. The children will use primary and secondary resources to find facts about this historical event.
In art we will be discussing the similarities and differences between different paintings. We will focus on Monet and William Turner.

It's the final week!!
As you know, the children have been so busy learning their lines and songs for our Christmas Performance 'Don't be Afraid'. We can't wait to show you on Wednesday!
On Tuesday, it is a our dress rehearsal to the grandparents.
Please speak to the office for tickets.
In Literacy, the children will be writing their Christmas cards to their family members and creating a Christmas story.
In Maths, the children will be Christmas code cracking activities and using 2d shapes to make their own wrapping paper.
The children will be completing a range of Christmas-themed activities throughout the week, ending with a party-day on Friday.
We hope you all have the most wonderful Christmas and enjoy the Christmas break.
We look forward to welcoming the children back on Wednesday 3rd January.

We were very proud of these brilliant children who represented Upton Infant School at the Upton Poetry Competition. They wrote and read some fabulous poems, and did an incredible job, particularly considering they were competing against older children!

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In Maths we will be learning how to name and describe 2D shapes. We will draw, name and count vertices and sides on 2D shapes. We will also learn how to recognise symmetry in 2D shapes. You can read the knowledge organiser here.

What we will be learning next week:
The children have been busy learning our Nativity songs and lines for the performance. Please ensure that you are taking time to learn the lines with your child and that you are aware that they will need a suitable costume as specified on the slip sent home.
In Literacy, the children will be continuing with their learning about Supertato. The children will design their new 'super veggie' that will trap the villain Evil Pea!
In Maths, the children will be comparing numbers to 20 using the greater than and less than and equal to symbols and they will also be ordering their numbers to 20.
In Art, the children will be designing their Winter Wonderland themed clay tile, ready for construction the following week.
In Science, the children will be thinking about the best material to be used as a crash mat for Humpty Dumpty. We will test the different materials and the children will predict which material would be best.
The children will be making a Christmas decoration for the Christmas hoops that are displayed in the hall. They will be on display at the Xmas fair for you to see!
Just to confirm, PE days are now Wednesday and Thursday.

What we will be learning next week:
In Literacy, the children will be introduced to the story 'Supertato' and they will be writing a missing poster to try and find the Evil Pea. They will be using adjectives to describe him and the prefix 'un'.
In Guided Reading, the children will be reading the story 'Send for a Superhero' and will be thinking about why Vacuum and Filth are the villains in the story.
In Maths, the children will be partitioning their numbers within 20 using dienes and they will also be finding one more and one less than a number to 20.
In Art, the children will use clay to practise their slip, score and blend techniques.
In History, the children will be learning about the key people that were involved in the Gunpowder Plot. They will learn the role of each of these key individuals and complete a matching activity to show their understanding.
In Science, the children will be thinking about the best material to be used as a crash mat for Humpty Dumpty. We will test the different materials and the children will predict which material would be best.
Next week, the children will be going home with their lines for the Xmas performance. Please ensure that you are learning these lines with your child.
