Year Two's Weekly Blog

Welcome to this week's Year Two blog.

What we have been doing this week

This week, the children have been continuing to write about castles. They have been finding out information from various sources such as books, fact sheets and the internet. They have also been learning about using conjunctions, such as 'because', 'and' and 'but'  to extend their writing.

In maths, the children have been learning about addition and subtraction. We have begun adding 10s and 1s to 2-digit numbers using number lines and hundred squares, which we will be building on next week.

We have started our geography topic this week. The children have been looking at aerial photographs and how these relates to maps. They have been creating their own maps using symbols and keys.

What we are learning next week

Next week in literacy, we will continue writing about castles. The children will be exploring the features of information texts and using the information they have found this week to write their own information texts.

In maths, we will be building on our addition and subtraction work, by using Base Ten (Dienes) equipment to add and subtract 2-digit numbers.

We will also continue our learning in geography on mapping, looking at landmarks and creating maps of the school.

Wow Work

Once again, we have seen some super work in Year Two this week. Please see the photos below to see some of the absolutely awesome castles which children have made. You can also see Joshua B's fab maths work and Amiya's fabulous map. Also take a look at Jacob C's Lost and Found box which he has made to help with those rogue jumpers!

Both the Foxes and Squirrels have increased their Doodle Maths stars this week, the incredible Woodpeckers have once again topped the Doodle Maths chart and have earned extra playtime. Brilliant work once again,  Woodpeckers! And the Woodpeckers have done the double this week, with the most children who have read three times this week. Good work!
