Welcome to this week's Year One Blog
What we have been learning this week:
This week in literacy the children have continued to look at 'I want my hat back' and wrote a letter to the rabbit from the story. We also designed our own characters in preparation for their retelling of their adapted story.
This week in Maths we have begun subtraction. We have used tens frames and counters and moved onto pictorial representations. This has involved using the crossing out method.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In History this week we found out more information about the Gunpowder plot and have answered questions.
In Science this week we have used our senses to go on a hunt around the school to identify what we can find using these.
In Art this week we have used charcoal to create lines and patterns. We have also created a gradient.
What we are learning next week
In Maths, we are going to subtract using a number line and also learning fact families.
In Literacy, we are going to complete our independent write to showcase all that we have learnt about the story.
In History, the children will be creating a timeline of the events of the Gunpowder Plot.
In Art, the children will be learning the following techniques: shading, cross-hatching and smudging using their graphite pencil.
In Science, the children will be completing an investigation using their senses.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
