Upton Infant School – Music Curriculum Intent
At Upton Infant School, we believe that music is a vital part of a child’s education and personal development. Our music curriculum is designed to nurture creativity, self-expression, and a lifelong appreciation of music. Through the use of the Sing Up music scheme, we provide a high-quality, progressive, and inclusive musical experience for all pupils.
Our intent is to:
- Inspire joy and confidence in music-making through singing, movement, and instrumental play.
- Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that builds musical knowledge and skills in line with the National Curriculum, using Sing Up’s structured and engaging resources.
- Support children’s vocal development, encouraging expressive and tuneful singing through regular practice and performance opportunities.
- Introduce children to a wide range of musical styles and cultures, fostering respect and curiosity for global musical traditions.
- Promote creativity and collaboration, enabling children to compose, improvise, and perform both individually and as part of a group.
- Ensure accessibility and inclusion, so that every child, regardless of background or ability, can participate fully and find success in music.
- Celebrate achievement and progress, through assemblies, performances, and cross-curricular links that highlight music’s role in the wider school community.
By embedding music into the life of our school and using the Sing Up scheme to support high-quality teaching and learning, we aim to develop confident, expressive, and musically aware children who are well-prepared for their continued musical journey beyond our school.
