Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths we will be describing movement using terminology such as: left, right, half turn, quarter turn, three quarter turn and full turn. We will also be learning about clockwise and anti-clockwise.
In our literacy lessons the children will be retelling the story 'The Dark' from the dark's perspective.
In Science we will be creating a leaflet to teach others about plants. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Art the children will evaluate their clay and make links between their own work and other artists . You can read the knowledge organiser here.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths we will be consolidating all of our learning so far in Year Two. We will be focusing on addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
In our literacy lessons the children will be retelling the story 'The Dark'..
In Science we will be learning about how plants reproduce. We will be looking at the life cycle of a sunflower and an oak tree. We will also use secondary sources to research about plants. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Art we will be creating a clay sculpture by manipulating and joining clay together. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In History we will be comparing the similarities and differences between hospitals in the 1800s and hospitals now.

What we have been learning this week:
This week in literacy we have edited our story form last week and have written an apology letter from our mean character.
This week in Maths we have been introduced to money. We have recognised coins and notes and we have counted in coins.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In Geography we have compared Upton and London. We have considered the land use in both and have drawn and labelled features.
In Science this week we have looked at animal classification keys. We have grouped animals based on their characteristics and have answered yes and no questions.
In DT this week we have evaluated our looms and considered the different ways we could have improved it.
Next month the children will be completing the statutory Phonics Screening. Please make sure that you are listening to your child read at least 3 times a week and have looked at the alternative sounds in the phonics pack. If you have lost the pack please see your class teacher for a new one as this is the last push and the children must get at least 32/40 to pass.

On Wednesday Morning, the whole school laced up their running shoes to 'Sprint into Summer'.
The children clearly enjoyed themselves as they completed sponsored laps of the school to raise much needed funds for the PSFA.
Thank you to family and friends for your kind sponsorship.
What we have been learning this week:
This week in literacy we have thought about what we are excited to see at the Science Museum and have used a conjunction to explain why we thought this. We have written a recount about what we did at the Science Museum.
This week in Maths we have been dividing amounts by sharing and grouping. We have used counters and pictorial representations to show this.
We are encouraging the children to use Doodle Maths at home to improve their maths fluency. If you do not know your child's login, please ask your class teacher.
In Geography we have learnt about the human features of London and wrote our own leaflets and tourist maps about these features.
We were very excited about our trip to the Science Museum this week and the children enjoyed learning about Space and Matter. The children visited a Planetarium where they got to see the Solar System. The children also enjoyed a slime workshop.

Welcome to Year Two
What we are learning next week
In maths we will continue to measure mass accurately in grams. We will also be comparing capacity. We will be pouring water from one container into another and deciding which has the greatest capacity. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In our literacy lessons the children will be reading 'The Dark'. We will be making predictions about what could happen in the story and we will be writing a description of the dark using adjectives and phrases from the book.
In Science we will be learning how seeds grow into plants. We will be looking at how our beans seeds have germinated and grown over the previous weeks. We will be also be discussing the different parts of a tree. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In Art the children will be designing a clay version of themselves and discussing what techniques they could use to create it e.g. joining, kneading, coiling and rolling. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
