The Year Two children have been learning how to saw, how to make strong wooden joints and how to join axels. They have designed and made their own fabulous vehicles which they raced in the 'Wacky Races'
We were so pleased to hold our Sports Day today. This is the first 'proper' Sports Day that any of our children will have taken part in at school due to the restrictions of the last couple of years.
The children enjoyed a variety of races cheered on by their families. Thank you very for helping to make this a memory that the children will cherish.

Welcome to this week's Year One Blog
What we have been learning this week
This week has been extremely exciting but a little bit different for the children. They have spent time with their new class and teacher for September. The children have played 'get to know us' games, familiarised themselves with their new classroom and they have been introduced to some stories that we will be focusing on in September. It has been lovely to see their excited smiles and they have definitely proven to us that they are Year 2 ready!
This week in literacy we have learnt about similes as we have described the setting in our story 'Little Red'. In maths we learnt about time and we are now able to tell the time to the hour.
Brilliant Scientists
This week we have learnt about animals and what they eat. We have learnt how to group animals into omnivores, herbivores and carnivores.
We have also been practising for our Sports Day on Friday 15th July.
What we are learning next week
On Monday and Tuesday we are going to be in our Year 2 classrooms.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we will be back in Year 1. In literacy we are going to continue to learn about similes and write a setting description about the forest. In maths we are going to learn to tell the time to half past. We will also continue practising for Sports Day and Upton's Got Talent!
The Frogs have an extra play this week for their amazing efforts collecting Doodle Maths Stars, Well done Frogs!

Welcome to Year Two's blog
Well, as we write our weekly blog, our Year Two children (or those who are going there!) are having a lovely time at the Junior School. The children seem very settled and are really getting to know their new school. We hope by the time we see them again on Wednesday, they will be raring to start Year Three, but not forgetting they still have a busy week and a bit left with us!
What we have been doing this week
As you can imagine, it's been a bit of a topsy-turvy week! Besides transition, we have squeezed in a little bit of literacy and science too. We also had a day of DT where the children made their 'Wacky Races' vehicles.
What we are learning next week
Next week, the children will be spending Monday and Tuesday at the Junior School. On Wednesday and Thursday we will be spending some time preparing for our Graduation ceremony, as well as Upton's Got Talent and completing our science, DT and history learning.
Wow Work
Please take a look at the photos below to see the children completing their DT models. Also, there are some photos of some super writing and history work.

What we have been learning this week
This week in literacy we have written a newspaper report about the Big Bad Wolf. The children wrote with independence and they wrote a series of detailed sentences. Our Year 1 children are certainly proving to us that they are Year 2 ready!
In maths we learnt about money and we are now able to recognise coins and notes.
Brilliant Scientists
This week we went on our school trip to the Sea Life Centre. The children learnt about different sea creatures and their different habitats.
Brilliant Designers
The children continued to weave using different fabrics to make a summer pattern!
What we are learning next week
In literacy we are going to continue to look at the story 'Little Red' and we are going to learn how to write similes so we can describe the forest in our story.
In maths we are going to learn the days of the week, months of the year and be able to tell the time to the hour.

It was lovely to welcome everyone to our Summer Fayre this afternoon. The PSFA have worked very hard to organise a fabulous fayre which was enjoyed by all!
Welcome to Year Two's blog
Welcome to our blog! The children are having a fun animal themed day today at school, including creating creatures out of junk modelling.
This is what we have been up to this week...
What we have been doing this week
In maths we carried out problem solving, focusing on multiplication and division. The children will had to apply their understanding to solve these fun and challenging maths problems.
In literacy we continued to use prepositions in our writing, which tell us where something is or when it happened. We wrote a log book, postcards and developing ideas for our final writing piece.
In science we carried out an investigation to find out what was the favourite habitat of woodlice. The children collected woodlice and set up a 'woodlouse hotel'. The woodlice could then choose which microhabitat they wanted to go into. We will find out soon what they chose! You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In history, the children created a fact file to showcase all that they have learned so far about Mary Seacole. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
In DT, we learned techniques to join wood, creating strong joints. We drew on our knowledge so far to design vehicles ready for our 'Wacky Races'. The children are now read to create their own vehicles next week! You can read the knowledge organiser here.
What we are learning next week
Next week, the children will be spending Thursday and Friday at Upton Junior school for transition activities. But we will be cramming lots of fun into Monday, Tuesday and Thursday!
We have a bit of different week of activities next week.
Each class will be having a DT day where they create their vehicles. They will be following their plans, applying their skills of sawing, joining and measuring to create a chassis for their vehicle. They will then create bodies to attach to the chassis.
In literacy next week, we will be describing our own fantasy settings. We will use these settings to write our own stories based on Ocean Meets Sky.
In science we will be completing our investigations to find out what is the favourite habitat of a woodlouse. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
Next week in history we are learning about hospitals from the 1800s. We will be looking at how they have changed over time. You can read the knowledge organiser here.
There will be no new spelling to learn next week.
