Year Two's Blog 12th November

Welcome to Year Two's blog.

Another busy week has flown by. We are sorry for the confusion over a last minute PE day change this week. Unfortunately, the ongoing difficulties due to COVID have meant we have had to change staffing at short notice which has impacted on our PE days.

Just to confirm, PE days are supposed to be Wednesday and Fridays.

What we have been doing this week

This week in literacy, the children have been writing their own stories of 'The Bear and the Piano'. They looking at using different sentence types, particularly exclamation sentences (What a beautiful day! How amazing this car is !  What a tricky question this is! What an evil witch she was!).

In maths, we began using the column method to add and subtract, linking to our work using Dienes, as shown in our Knowledge and Skills Organiser.

We began a new history topic, looking at the history of our school. The children began by exploring the school to find out about its past and looked at old artefacts from the past 120 years of Upton Infant School. You can see some of the photos below. Please see the Knowledge and Skills Organiser to find out more.

What we are learning next week

In maths, we will be continue to use the column method to add and subtract. We will also be looking at how we use the number line to subtract ones by bridging 10. You can see more in our  Knowledge and Skills Organiser.

In literacy, children will be writing their own stories using The Bear and Piano as inspiration. They will be changing the story, thinking about their own settings and characters.

We will continue  our history topic, looking at the history of our school. Children will be examining primary and secondary sources to investigate how things have changed at school over time.

Please see next week's spellings below. Set A are common exception words (known as 'tricky words'). Set B are near words ending in -e which we have had the suffixes -er / -est / y added.

Wow Work

Once again, we have had some fantastic learning across the curriculum. See some of the super work in the photos below.

The Woodpeckers unbroken run at the top of the Doodle chart continues, so yet again they earn extra playtime.

Both the Foxes and the Squirrels have earned extra playtime for having the most children who have read three times this week. Good work!
