Space Base

The 'Space Base' is a space themed classroom where we deliver the 'Read, Write Inc.' phonics scheme to groups of children from across all year groups. These sessions are designed to stimulate and challenge children’s thinking and create enthusiastic, life-long readers and writers.

Five key principles underpin the teaching in the Read Write Inc. Programme:

  • Participation - the teaching strategies ensure that all children participate fully in the whole lesson – there is no chance for children to lose concentration and miss key elements of the teaching
  • Praise – children work together, as partners, taking turns to teach and praise one another and they are motivated by the focused praise they receive from the teacher and teaching assistants
  • Pace - a lively pace keeps all the children fully engaged
  • Purpose – every activity is purposeful and links into the next activity
  • Passion – both children and teachers enjoy the learning, so the pupils make rapid progress

Alongside the Read Write Inc. programme, children also have regular opportunities for extended, creative writing.  The videos, photographs and information below should give you a flavour of some of the learning that takes place in 'Space Base'.

On the 1st of March the children learnt about St David's Day. They made Welsh Cakes and wrote instructions for how to make them:
