A Sparkling Start to the Year

It has been a sparkling start to the new year for all our children with a variety of exciting events taking place.

Reception came to school today to find some dinosaur footprints on the front lawn. They were then contacted by Professor Green from the Dorset palaeontology department who asked them to go on a hunt around Upton looking for further clues. They saw a variety of things such as scratch marks, ripped shrubs, strange egg-shaped things and large flattened areas of ground. Some roaring noises were even heard before each class stumbled on a dinosaur egg! The children took the eggs back to school and kept them warm and by the end of the day the eggs had hatched and each class had a baby dinosaur to look after. What an exciting day!

The Year One children spent the day finding out about the wonderful books of Julia Donaldson. This included reading The Gruffalo and creating some strange recipes inspired by the book, such as 'scrambled snake'!

Year Two started the day by experiencing a range of Roald Dahl stories being told by the teachers before heading off around the school on their very own story walk. They found five story areas and created  their own unique stories before planning and writing them. The stories are now published in our classrooms' reading corners in one giant book!
